A.  Two types/views – dependent on the jurisdiction
1.  Assault as a threat (majority approach) – GENERAL INTENT CRIME
a.  The intentional creation, other than by mere words, of a                         reasonable apprehension in the mind of the victim of                     imminent bodily harm
2.  Assault as an attempted battery (minority approach) – SPECIFIC                 INTENT CRIME
